CAT scan in Puntarenas

Puntarenas will have a new computerized axial tomography scan (CAT scan) service in Monseñor Sanabris Hospital. The Executive Board approved the purchase for more than 635 million colones.

Maria del Rocío Sáenz, executive president of the Caja Costarricense de seguridad Social (CCSS), said

“it was a great need that was part of the investment projects 2010-2014 and it is something that is taking place.”

The CAT scan, also known as scan or computerized tomography (CT) is a diagnostic test that uses X-rays to obtain radiographic images from inside the body though cross sections or, if necessary, in the form of three-dimensional images.

The most common reasons to carry out this test are:

-To locate bleedings and injuries on internal organs and bones.
-To diagnose tumors and their extension.
-To study spinal cord or vertebral column pathologies.
-To diagnose some infections.
