CCSS asks municipality to solve floods in HNN

Last Thursday, after heavy downpours that occurred in San José, the facilities of the National Children’s Hospital (HNN) were affected. Water reached the emergency areas, orthopedics and the basement of the health center where the nutrition area is located.

In response to this situation, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) asked the Municipality of San José (MSJ) for an early solution to the problem, since high-cost medical equipment is involved.

Gabriela Murillo, Manager of Infrastructure and Technologies of the CCSS, said that although the area of Engineering and Maintenance of the hospital carried out various works to avoid flooding, the problem lies in the pluvial system of the Hospital district in the capital.

The HNN carried out works with a system of metal gates and periodic simulations. However there are serious problems of accumulation of water in the area caused by the Lantisco stream that crosses the site.

On Monday, municipal officials and representatives of the institution made an inspection to determine the measures to be taken.
