Through a press release, the CCSS denied the complaint made by legislator Mario Redondo, who said a doctor at the Ebais Alto Quetzal in Turrialba did not assist a patient because he showed up after their working hours.
According to Redondo, photographs of the affected patient with data and details of the situation came to him with the complaint of another employee of the CCSS, who was outraged that medical care was denied to a person with a serious condition.
But the CCSS authorities say that Ebais provided basic care and that the wound was washed and covered with compressive bandages, because of the profuse bleeding. The same officials of the CCSS called the ambulance to transfer the patient to William Allen Taylor Hospital, where he remains hospitalized.
The Hospital confirmed that despite the serious injuries the patient did not lose any of his fingers.
The patient entered the medical center at 9:49 p.m. and shortly after he was assessed and hospitalized with fourth and fifth finger trauma of the right upper limb,”
said Dr. Zianne López Revilla, director of the Turrialba hospital.
The patient remains hospitalized and will be able to leave next Saturday with the indication of consuming oral antibiotics and cleaning the wound in Ebais. The explanation of the CCSS still does not convince Redondo, who insists that the action of the doctor is questionable but does not doubt the good behavior of the rest of Ebais personnel who helped the 52-year old patient.
Redondo will present the evidence of the doctor’s actions -and the alleged denial to assist the patient after his working hours- to the management of the CCSS.
