CCSS was asked to clarify future of the transplant program

Legislator Gerardo Vargas Varela from Frente Amplio asked the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) to clarify the future of the liver transplant and liver surgery unit, after meeting with a group of patients and family members, who expressed their concern about the possible closure of the program.

The lawmaker declared that the complainants believe that the closure of the unit is a possibility due to the resolution of the Board of Directors of the CCSS, which points out the implementation of a new, centralized program.

According to the complainants, it would affect the services and quality of care for transplant patients who undergo this procedure in Mexico hospital.

Vargas is waiting for the CCSS authorities’  response and he insisted that they should clarify the situation.

From my office, we will be following up on these complaints… In the case of liver transplants, Costa Rica has been at the forefront in Central America. That is why we must be careful, so that the quality of any of our social security services does not deteriorate,

stated the legislator.
