CCSS: “the country does not face an outbreak of acute respiratory viruses”

Authorities from the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) ruled out that the country faces an outbreak of acute respiratory viruses. María Eugenia Villata, the institution’s medical manager, explained that this is a normal behavior due to the month of the year and the temperature.

According to the official, although cases have stabilized in hospitals, patients continue to arrive in emergency services. However, she explained that no hospital has been overcrowded.

Villata recommended extreme preventive measures, especially to people at risk: the elderly, children under 3 years old and patients with chronic or severe-associated disease.

These people should avoid visiting crowded places. They should frequently wash their hands and follow the protocol when coughing and sneezing.

Acute respiratory infections took 29 lives in the last two months.

Among the viruses that have been identified there are the Influenza AH1N1, AH3N3, Influenza type A and AH1N2.
