In the following weeks, the directive board of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) will discuss whether to extend the benefit of the civil partner’s pension to same-sex couples or not.
On My, 14th, the executives from the Health Insurance Regulations approved a reform to grant the benefit of family insurance for the LGBT community.
According to the analysis made by the CCSS, the added expense of this initiative is insignificant. However, it is still a risk, because they need more information.
Projections of beneficiaries and costs reveal that by 2020, 287 people would attend the pension benefit, with a projected expense of ¢ 1,583 million per year.
A year after its approval, the extension of family benefits in health insurance to same-sex couples, reached just 135 of the 3,000 couples projected by the CCSS.
However, pro-gay lawyer, Yashin Castrillo, says
they are not considering this out the will of their hearts. They are bound to do it because of the lawsuit I filed against them.”
