The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) will have to pay ¢ 2 million to a patient named Benavides, who had to wait 10 years for a surgical procedure.
Benavides was on the waiting list since 2005 to be operated from a hernia at the San Rafael de Alajuela Hospital.
In the face of the constant refusal, in 2015 they filed an appeal. The Constitutional Court ruled in their favor and ordered the payment for moral damages. However, this was appealed by the CCSS and, finally, on July 21st, it was signed by the Administrative Court.
Mario Zamora, lawyer of the affected patient, believes the amount that the institution will have to pay is not significant, when compared to the time the patient had to wait without a response.
Zamora added that his client was already operated.
