The consequences of Diabetes go beyond having high blood sugar levels. This is an increasing illness in the country and health authorities are looking for options to attack its major consequences.
On Monday, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) reported it will prescribe physical activity as part of the treatment for patients with diabetes.
They will also work on an education plan so that people can become more attached to their treatments and strengthen the nutritional part, which is key in addressing chronic diseases.
To this end, it will include health promoters and nutritionists among the 304 job positions that were approved a couple of weeks ago.
These new officials will have the mission to make interventions in the community and coordinate efforts of health promotion and disease prevention with all possible social actors.
