#Cementazo Hearing will continue on Thursday

January 31, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The hearing against the suspects of the cementazo case to request the extension of the precautionary measures will continue on Thursday, according to the Public Ministry.

The hearing in the Second Judicial Circuit began on Wednesday, after two days and a challenge against the judge who is in charge of the hearing, which was rejected.

The hearing is to debate the extension of the preventive custody against the cement businessman, Juan Carlos Bolaños, the manager of the Bank of Costa Rica, Mario Barrenechea, and the officials Rodrigo Ramírez, director of Credit Management, Gilberth Barrantes, corporate risk manager; Leonardo Acuña, Deputy Manager of Finance and Risk, Marvin Corrales, Deputy Manager of Retail Banking, and Andrés Víquez, Deputy Manager of Wholesale Banking.

The decision to send them to jail was made by the Extraordinary Court of San José, on November 4th last year and it expires on February 4th.

Fernando Vargas, one of Bolaños’ lawyers, told the media on Monday that his client was a political prisoner and that he was the only person in Costa Rica who was in jail for debt.
