After the results of the US presidential elections, the Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica said it is necessary that the country maintains the relationship with its largest trading partner.
What matters now is that Costa Rica takes steps to keep this nation as its main trade partner, and the strengthening and whole Central American region development through actions taken as part of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Central America and the Dominican Republic,”
said Yolanda Fernández, president of the chamber.
The expert said that they are respectful of the decision taken by the Americans but that it’s time to call for reflection.
This result should call us to reflect in order to understand the new emerging forms of leadership supported by the people, and how to strengthen the bonds of Latin America in this context,”
added Fernández.
The woman also said she hopes to maintain cultural ties and friendship beyond trade.
Our country maintains important cooperation agreements with the United States on trade, environment and joint patrols to fight drug trafficking. Also, most tourists coming to our country come from this country, which undoubtedly also energizes our economy and brings great benefits to the trade sector,”
concluded Fernández.
