Weeks ago, former Chamber Judge Celso Gamboa Sánchez agreed to defend the regime of Nicolás Maduro in Costa Rica. However, the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Manuel Ventura Robles, admitted not knowing how the government will face these accusations and the management that will be given to him from the Executive Power.
Ventura said he learned that Gamboa and the Maduro regime claimed to be victims of “unfounded attacks” by some governments, including Costa Rica, this Tuesday. He added that the Government is assessing whether Maduro and Gamboa’s complaint deserve a response or not from the national government.
Gamboa -who was dismissed as a magistrate for being unduly interested in the judicial matters of the Chinese cement importer Juan Carlos Bolaños -was appointed as legal representative of Nicolás Maduro before Costa Rica on March 6th, 2019 by means of a letter signed by the Attorney General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
With the powers that this designation grants him, the former magistrate presented on March 18th a complaint on behalf of the Venezuelan regime against 10 people for taking the embassy of Venezuela on February 20th, including María Faría, ambassador appointed by the president in charge Juan Guaidó and recognized by Costa Rica.
In his complaint, Gamboa indicates to the Costa Rican authorities that the team designated by Guaidó should not have any type of immunity or privilege, while pointing to Faría as the “ringleader” of a violent incursion against the Embassy.
They also claim to be victims of inappropriate actions by the Public Force of the Ministry of Public Security during the event and officials of the Bank of Costa Rica for changing the ownership of the bank accounts of the embassy after the Costa Rican government recognized Guaidó.
