Foreign Minister Manuel Ventura traveled to Montevideo, Uruguay, to participate in the meeting of the International Contact Group for Venezuela.
The foreign ministers of this group, made up of France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Ecuador, Bolivia and another country that will be announced shortly, will seek to create a consensus on how to “contribute and create conditions for the emergence of a political and peaceful process” that allows free presidential elections to be held in Venezuela.
Before leaving, Ventura reiterated that Costa Rican diplomacy will always be present in the actions of dialogue and negotiation that promote reconciliation and peace in that South American nation.
For Costa Rica, it is an inescapable duty to contribute to the execution of all kinds of efforts so that, through negotiation and inclusive dialogue, and as soon as possible, the constitutional order in Venezuela is re-established and a path of peace, democracy and reconstruction of its prosperity, where the solution to the serious crisis has as its main actors Venezuelans themselves,”
said the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday through a press release.
On Monday, Ventura traveled to Ottawa, Canada, to participate in a meeting of the Lima Group with the objective of discussing the crisis in Venezuela. With his counterparts from Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, Guyana, Panama, Paraguay and St. Lucia, the Costa Rican minister discussed the steps to follow to support Juan Guaidó, the country’s interim president.
