While the National Apprenticeship Institute (INA) is preparing to spend millions of colones on a trip to the United Arab Emirates, students at Drake Bay School have to jump into the water if they want to study, as rains cause flooding of the river that passes through the area.
Francini Arauz, a school teacher, told reporters that several students have to go through that site to be able to receive lessons. In total, the school has 90 students.
Arauz said that they live this problem every time the rains cause the river to overflow. He assured that the situation is worrisome since at any moment an accident could happen.
The teacher also reported that they need 14 trees to be cut down, as they are about to fall over the school.
The last time a tree collapsed and fell on top of a classroom. When it rains too much, you cannot teach because nobody is going to cut the trees,”
said the woman.
Arauz pointed out that these trees cannot be removed altogether but they can be pruned.
There is even a sentence from the Agrarian Court of the Southern Zone of Corredores authorizing the pruning of the 14 trees.
In addition, the school was asked to carry out soil conservation works to prevent landslides.
