China donated ¢3.3 million to purchase police equipment

The People’s Republic of China donated ¢3.3 million for the country to purchase police equipment. The government will invest resources in the purchase of protective equipment for officers of the Public Force and in telecommunications equipment.

The donation was made in a recent tour of Security Minister Michael Soto in the Asian nation, in which he held a meeting with the Chinese Defense Minister, Xu Qiliana.

Soto said that as a result of this tour both governments are exploring the possibility of another cooperation for the donation of a monitoring center needed to attack crime, drug trafficking, and organized crime.

At the beginning of this administration the government said that the Foreign Ministry would undertake a plan to put Costa Rica back in the eyes of the cooperating countries, where China will be a priority axis.

Since 2007, when Costa Rica initiated diplomatic relations with China, aid from this country has been growing.

During 2007 the construction of the National Stadium was completed by China, with an investment of $110 million. In 2010, the Asian country built the new Police Academy in the canton of Pococí, Limón, valued at $50 million, and gave a donation of $8 million for the administration of Laura Chinchilla to use them in what she saw fit.

There has also been financial cooperation through the purchase of debt bonds several times.
