The push and pull continue in Costa Rican Renovation. Legislators Abelino Esquivel and Gonzalo Ramírez lodged an appeal for electoral amparo against an agreement of the National Assembly for declaring them Personae Non Gratae.
It was reported that this agreement was taken in November last year by the Executive Committee, which notified it to the Legislative Assembly, requesting Esquivel and Ramírez were no longer treated as legislators of the fraction, nor allowed to use the external signs of the group.
This caused the lawmakers to go to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) with the appeal requesting a precautionary measure of suspension of the agreement pending the resolution of the case.
Andrei Cambronero, counsel for the TSE, explained that while the case was failing the judges applied the suspension of the agreement.
We represent the party with dignity. This arises from the fact that we asked Justo Orozco to leave the presidency of the party while he was being investigated. But we were elected by the people,”
said Esquivel.
Rafael Ángel Matamoros, vice-president of the party explained that the agreement is the result of a motion presented by an Assemblyman, and not of the party authorities.
