Gifts, Christmas dinner, New Year’s eve party and holidays, increased Costa Ricans’ credit card debt in ¢60 billion, according to figures released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and commerce (MEIC).
Including this increase, the total debt reached ¢897 billion, which represents about 3.2% of the gross domestic product (GDP).
In addition, 75% of credit cards in circulation have an interest rate in colones ranging between 40% and 50%.
