A criminal act made the population from Manuel Antonio Quepos react and take the law into their own hands.
As reported by Carlos Hidalgo, spokesman from the Ministry of Public Security, the situation is under control thanks to the Tourist Police: a man tried to steal a tourist, who did not want to file a report as nothing was stolen.
There are 3 arrested people under investigation, but no crime was consummated.
The issue, he said, was that citizens detained suspects until the police arrived.
This is called a civil detention. It is part of the Criminal Procedure Code and it is legal,
declared the official.
As seen in the photograph, locals destroyed the vehicle in which the alleged perpetrators were traveling.
At this moment, the situation remains in custody of the Public Force and the Tourist Police of Quepos.
