Citizens want to help a poor family in Talamanca

December 15, 2016 by Staff News Writer

In Paraíso of Sixaola, life is not so paradisiacal for Sonia, Juan Francisco and their 9-year-old son Jeremy. Health problems, lack of employment and livelihood affect this family.

Sonia Corea is 39 years old, she is hypertensive and she is struggling with a leg injury, as slipped over her floor. Her partner, Juan Francisco Benitez is 69 years old and he suffers from diabetes.

The family has been assisted by the Joint Institute of Social Assistance (IMAS).

This year they were awarded an aid of 100,000 colones for this month. The deposit was made on December 13th.

The money would allow them to buy some food for the next few days.

In January 2017, the case will undergo a new evaluation to determine if the aid could be granted again, since IMAS’ aids are temporary.

However, the conditions in which this family lives are precarious, so their neighbors are asking for help to improve the house. They are willing to build it, but they need to buy the materials.

To help, call 8456-8518.
