CNE issues green alert in the Central Valley due to rains

This Sunday, the National Commission of Emergencies (CNE) issued a green alert in the Central Valley due to the rains of the previous hours and that could persist the next days.

Sigifredo Pérez, Chief of Operations of the CNE, explained that the decision was made after the announcement of the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) that for Sunday afternoon and night heavy rains were expected accompanied by thunderstorms in much of the territory.

Pérez said that, on Saturday, about 55 incidents were dealt with, of which 40 were floods, especially in Heredia and San José.

One of the most affected areas this Saturday was the passage through the Gruta, in Barreal de Heredia, where the overflow of the Bermúdez River caused a flood. The heavy rains also caused the closing of the road by Bajo Los Ledezma because the Torres River also overflowed.

It also closed for a few hours the route 32, which connects San José with Limón, due to landslides, and there were flood reports in several points of the Metropolitan Area.
