The National Emergency Commission (CNE) maintains the green alert for the Central Valley, North Zone and the Caribbean, and the yellow alert for the South, Central and North Pacific, given the possibility that heavy rains will hit the country, as part of the indirect influence of hurricane Irma.
Sigifredo Pérez, chief of operations of the CNE, stressed that since Friday night there have been reports of incidents related to the heavy rains and winds that affected the country.
The indirect influence of Hurricane Irma in our country has caused rains practically all along the Pacific coast, Central Valley and some sectors of the Caribbean(…) This caused some flood problems, especially in the canton of Esparza, where at the moment there are two temporary shelters, one in the Christian Church of Cambalache and another in the communal hall of Juanilama,”
explained Perez.
Perez also explained that after the tornado that occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Plaza González Víquez sector, some people had to be evaluated by the Local Municipal Emergency Committee of San José.
As a result of the rains, the incidents have been concentrated mainly in the metropolitan area, in Santa Bárbara, San Isidro de Heredia, Alajuelita, Escazú and Curridabat, in Naranjo in the province of Alajuela and two incidents in Liberia by saturation of the sewage system,”
commented Perez.
In addition, after the landslide that affected Barrio Corazón de Jesús, in La Uruca, on Saturday night, a CNE geologist would make an assessment of the area to give a report of the situation.
