The influence of a cold front has brought strong winds and downpours which in turn have caused floods, landslides, and damage to houses due to falling trees and power lines.
The National Emergency Commission (CNE) reports 18 homes affected by tree falls in several areas of the country.
Walter Fonseca, head of operations of the agency told the press they have reports of floodings in Matina, Pococí, Paraíso de Talamanca and Puntarenas.
At least 5 houses have been flooded and are being evaluated by emergency committees in the areas. A landslide is also reported in the area of Turrialba caused by a machine,”
said Fonseca.
In addition, in Sarapiquí there are reports of overflowing rivers.
In Sixaola, the river overflowed in the area of Paraíso. Rivers in the Caribbean are already beginning to overflow. We still don’t know if the population has been transferred or if the authorities enabled a shelter,”
added Fonseca.
The CNE declared a green alert in the country until Tuesday, due to the influence of the cold front.
Route 32 was closed on Monday 1:00 a.m. due to a collapse 5 kilometers from Río Sucio, in the direction Limón-San José.
