Common cold or AH1N1? Know the differences

The Ministry of Health confirmed that there are five patients with AH1N1 influenza in the province of Guanacaste. They are even investigating whether the death of a senior citizen is related to this virus.

Despite this, the authorities ask the population to remain calm, since this virus is seasonal and since 2009 it was no longer considered an epidemic.

However, they ask to reinforce prevention measures, including: hand washing and the protocol for sneezing and coughing.

Daniel Salas, Directorate of Health Surveillance, explained the importance of taking these measures. In addition, he clarified that this the only virus responsible for influenza and other respiratory complications.

It is necessary that citizens know how to identify the difference between a common cold and the influenza virus.

Doctors insist on vaccination, since it considerably reduces the possibility of catching the virus.
