Although the CompraRed public procurement system officially operated until December 2016, the system will remain active for another year, since some administrative hiring processes, which were already initiated, are still in force.
Fabián Quirós, head of the General Directorate of Administration of Goods and Administrative Contracting of the Ministry of Finance, explained the situation.
CompraRed closure was announced from early 2015, to start using Sicop, a system that would also replace Mer-Link, which is directed by the Costa Rican Electricity Institute.
However, the closure will have to be postponed while some agreements expire and that will happen this year.
The official explained that this situation will strengthen the principle of legal security for those who are already part of a process.
He added that once these processes are completed, CompraRed will continue working, but now as a system of citizen or institutional consultation.
