CONAVI: “there won’t be bottlenecks when we finish the expansion works”

General Cañas Highway will undergo several changes with San José-San Ramón road expansion project.

Law 9292, published in March 2015 in La Gaceta, establishes some aspects that should be included in the expantion, such as 3 lanes per direction between La Sabana and Monumento del Agua. In addition, the road must have 4 lanes per direction when heading to Juan Santamaría Airport and from Castella Conservatory to Heredia, as well as from the Firestone to San Joaquin de Flores, the road will have at least 2 lanes per direction.

The expansions in some sectors of the road would originate bottlenecks all over the place.

However, according to Adrián Sánchez, CONAVI engineer, the new structures must be expanded and adapted to the requirement of the project in order to avoid traffic jams.

The traffic congestion in General Cañas Highway are a normal thing and it is not only related to the repairing works at La Platina. Since the moment when the MOPT placed the traffic lights in the airport sector, drivers passing through the area have to add about 40 minutes to their journey.
