A legislative majority did not ratify the appointment of Carmen Coto Pérez as the new director of the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP).
A total of 41 legislators voted on Tuesday against the ratification of Coto, appointed by the Governing Council on May 29th.
Only nine legislators voted in favor of the appointment of Coto, lawyer and graduate in public administration of the University of Costa Rica (UCR).
Carlos Ricardo Benavides, head of the National Liberation Party (PLN) faction, explained that, according to the negative opinion of the Congress Appointments Committee, the functionary does not meet the necessary experience for the position.
A similar criterion was offered by legislator Carlos Avendaño, head of the bench of the National Restoration Party (PRN), who indicated that Coto failed to demonstrate the suitability to perform in the position.
