The president of the Legislative Assembly, Antonio Álvarez, announced that he will limit the number of permits granted to Legislators to skip a session, after the third time within two weeks that the plenary could not hold a meeting due to a lack of quorum.
Álvarez said he will reduce the number of authorizations from 10 to 7, minutes after verifying that 21 legislators were absent and only 36 were present.
The congressmen who were absent this Thursday were Marvin Atencio, Franklin Corella, Marcela Guerrero, Nidia Jiménez, Marlene Madrigal, Víctor Morales Zapata, from the Citizen Action Party (PAC).
Also, Mario Redondo, from the Christian Democratic Alliance (ADC); Edgardo Araya, Frank Camacho, Carlos Hernández and José Ramírez, from Frente Amplio.
From the National Liberation Party (PLN), Maureen Clarke, Karla Prendas, Juan Marín, Sandra Piszk and Lorelly Trejos were absent.
To the list were added Fabricio Alvarado, from National Restoration, Abelino Esquivel, from Costa Rican Renovation; William Alvarado, Rafael Ortiz and Humberto Vargas, from the Partido Social Cristiano (PUSC).
There is a very high level of absenteeism (…) It is unjustifiable. We know that November is very boring for legislators for the budget issue, but it is our duty to be here,”
said Álvarez.
The first reading of the corrected bill against animal abuse was scheduled for voting on Thursday afternoon.
