Constitutional Chamber receives appeal against PANI’s budget cuts

The Constitutional Chamber granted a petition for a writ of amparo filed by the Union of Employees of the National Children’s Patronage (PANI) against the cut of ¢ 47 billion to the institution’s budget for next year.

According to a resolution of the Fourth Chamber, the Ministry of Finance and the Legislative Assembly are given three business days to submit their reports.

The appellants claim that the budget reduction would entail the technical closure of the institution.

The national budget for 2017 was approved on November 29th without receiving the 2 statutory votes (first and second reading).

The bill states that 47 billion colones were cut from PANI and assigned to the Ministry of Public Security.
