Cooperatives could be created with fewer people than what the current legislation establishes, if a bill presented by the legislator and leader of the Libertarian Movement, Natalia Díaz, is successful.
Currently, the law establishes having at least 20 people as a requirement to set up a cooperative, and sets an exception in the case of self-management cooperatives, which must be constituted with at least 12 people.
The legislator proposes that the minimum to create cooperatives is five people, without exceptions.
With this project, we intend that more organized groups and family microenterprises can use the figure of the cooperative to develop their own ventures and receive the benefits enjoyed by this type of organizations, reactivating the national economy,”
said Díaz.
The proposal would reform several articles of the Law of Cooperative Associations and Creation of the National Institute of Cooperative Development.
