If you made purchases online through Chinese sites such as Aliexpress and Wish, you’d better be prepared, because in the first quarter of the year, Correos de Costa Rica could include an extra fee for package delivery to your home address.
Erick Ulate, president of the Costa Rican Consumers Association, said they have information that this fee will be charged, but only for deliveries from Correos to home addresses. Therefore, those who go and pick up their packages to the offices would not have to pay the surplus.
As long as the cost is reasonably and transparently determined, there won’t be any problems. People must know how much they will have to pay for these objects and how Correos differentiates the package that comes from online purchases from the ones that come from the standard service,”
added Ulate.
The man also indicated that they don’t know whether it will be a general fee or if it will be set depending on the weight of the item.
In addition, Ulate explained that this is not necessarily going to make the packages arrive faster, because this depends more on international traffic, so he believes charging the extra fee would be beneficial as long as it implies an improvement in service.
Daily, the entity receives around 25 thousand packages from these sites, forcing them to hire more staff to meet the delivery demand.
