Costa Rica and 11 Latin American countries expressed their concern regarding Venezuela’s political situation

Costa Rica and 11 Latin American countries expressed their concern regarding the political polarization in Venezuela and they urged Nicolas Maduro’s government and its opposition to start a dialogue to resolve differences.

According to a statement from the Mexican Foreign Ministry, this joint appeal was also signed by Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

In this dialogue, both groups should look for solutions that respect the rule of law and constitutional guarantees and that allow all Venezuelans to exercise their fundamental rights.

Latin American countries also welcomed the support of the Vatican to start a possible dialogue between the socialist government and the opposition, which controls the National Assembly.

The political tension in Venezuela has worsened due to the electoral power’s decision of suspending the call for a referendum on the mandate of Maduro for alleged fraud.
