Costa Rica and its energy production from renewable sources continue drawing the world’s attention. A report on that matter joins previous European and American publications. The new report was made by Fusión, an American website operated by Univisión.

In the report, there is the possibility that Costa Rica is becoming a superpower in the development of renewable energy. In addition, it reiterates that the country is surpassing more powerful nations such as the United States.

When it comes to the production of clean energy, Costa Ricans are the leaders. In fact, just two weeks ago, Costa Rica became the first country in the hemisphere to announce that it had completely changed to renewable energy sources,

stated the publication on October 10th.

On September 25th, Costa Rica reached 101 consecutive days operating with renewable energy.

In an interview, president Luis Guillermo Solís denied the possibility of being a superpower in this field but he considered that the country could be a role model.

Last year, there was a 99% electricity generation from renewable sources and during July and August, 2016, this generation reached 100%, which means that fuel for this purpose was not burned.

According to minister of Environment and Energy Edgar Gutiérrez, this energy production has been taking place in Costa Rica for many years and he expects it becomes a fundamental key in the future.

In addition, the Costa Rican Electricity Institution (ICE) estimates that the use of fossil fuels will be less than 2% this year.
