More than 10 years after he was arrested in Costa Rica, a Mexican drug trafficker was deported to his country on Wednesday.
The Attorney General of the Republic of Mexico (PGR) confirmed that Alfredo Carrillo, 54 years old, was arrested on March 11th, 2008 in Canoas de Alajuela for protecting 651 kilos of cocaine and a briefcase with ¢52 million in cash. They were ready to be taken out of the country by land.
Costa Rican justice sentenced Carrillo to 20 years in prison. The foreigner had a Costa Rican residence since 1990. He was engaged in operating a drug trafficking organization that coordinated drug shipments between Costa Rica and Mexico.
To achieve the objective, Carrillo would have constituted two companies used as a screen to export products, such as raw material for chewing gum, to North America.
Through a press release, the PGR noted that Carrillo is suspected of committing crimes and using illicit resources. Apparently, the subject and the group he led were also linked to a confiscation of 188 kilos of cocaine made in December 2007 at the Juan SantamarĂa International Airport in Alajuela.
