Costa Rica gets Health endorsement for OECD admission

In terms of health, Costa Rica has the endorsement to access the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

As reported by the Ministry of Health, this is the second approval of the 22 committees involved in the accession process.

The country was evaluated in terms of health system governance, financial efficiency and sustainability, use of information and performance management, patient choice and participation, and training of the health workforce, as well as coordination and continuity of services.

There are thousands of workers of the Health, Nutrition, Sports, State and Institutional Policies sectors, such as those from the INS or the CCSS that, over time, have made our National Health System, the best secret to document and discover at an international level, despite the current criticisms,”

said Fernando Llorca, Health Minister.

Foreign Minister Alexander Mora said that

if there is something we are all learning from our approach to the organization it is precisely the value of using data and statistics to make decisions and make a more efficient and effective use of our resources, so that we can continue to provide the quality services that Costa Ricans deserve and demand. The generation of such data was an essential part of this assessment and will be central to our work in the future.”

The admission to this group is considered as a membership to the “good practices club”, where all the countries meet minimum standards in economic and public policies.
