The National Emergency Commission (CNE) reported that a low pressure system, belonging to the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is very active in the Pacific Ocean.
During Sunday morning, there were rains in the Central Pacific coast and Guanacaste.
Rainfalls have also been registered in the mountain ranges, such as Tenorio Volcano and Miravalles, as well as as in the Central Valley and the mountains in the Caribbean. However, risen rivers have not been reported.
The forecast for Sunday afternoon and early evening hours of the night was that rains were going to continue in the North Pacific, Central and South Pacific, in periods of 3 to 6 hours.
In addition, these downpours could increase in the next few hours throughout the rest of the mountain range of Guanacaste and Tilarán, as well as in the Northern Zone, generating heavy downpours in Los Chiles, Upala, the plains of Guatusos, Arenal, Quesada and Sarapiqui.
Furthermore, a cloudy Sunday night with heavy downpours was forecasted in areas such as Braulio Carrillo, mountains of Heredia, Cartago, Turrialba, Guápiles, Guácimo.
As a result, the National Emergency Commission recommended:
-Caution in areas vulnerable to landslides and flooding, mainly in newly-affected zones, particularly in the Pacific and the North Zone.
-In the event of lightning, avoid staying in open fields, look for a dry, closed shelter, even if it is not raining.
-Be careful with strong wind gusts.
-Prevention in roads due to possible reduced visibility.
