Costa Rica honors US ambassador

On Thursday, Foreign Affairs Minister Manuel González imposed the National Order of Juan Mora Fernández on Great Silver Plate Cross degree, on Stafford Fitzgerald Haney, who until serves as ambassador of the United States this week.

The Chancellor paid a tribute to the American representative during a ceremony held in the Golden Hall of the Chancellery, with the assistance of members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in the country.

I am very pleased to note that Ambassador Haney, completing his mission in Costa Rica, has impeccably fulfilled his responsibilities as representative of the United States, but in addition, he and his family have won the heart of this land a multitude of friends and have a stamp of sympathy and goodwill in all their attitudes and actions,”

said the minister.

For his part, Haney stressed that the United States remains the main source of foreign direct investment in Costa Rica, with more than $1.5 billion last year alone and more than 50,000 jobs created by US companies in Costa Rica since 2009, and it’s also one of the preferred destinations for American tourists.

Through a wide range of programs, we are investing in the Costa Rican people, with the purpose of helping in inclusive economic development. I am very proud of the alliance we have forged with Costa Rica’s security services. With significant contributions in materials and training, we are expanding the reach of security services in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking, and further strengthening its position as one of our most effective partners in the region,”

said the ambassador.

The Great Silver Plate Cross of the National Order of Juan Mora Fernández is named after the first Head of State of Costa Rica, a school teacher who was characterized by its simplicity, modesty and patriotism, and who at the same time knew how to drive the country with great talent and ability, always aiming at the well-being of its compatriots and giving high priority to education as the foundation of freedom and progress, and thus defining the orientation of the national State.
