On Sunday, the Costa Rican government expressed its repudiation of the arbitrary arrest of the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, legislator Juan Guaidó, on behalf of the Nicolás Maduro regime.
We most vehemently repudiate this outrage against the democratic institutions of the people of Venezuela, and express our firm solidarity with the legitimately elected leaders of its National Assembly,”
said the government in a statement from the Foreign Ministry.
The Costa Rican government says the actions of the regime are despicable and argues that this confirms the rupture of the constitutional order of the Rule of Law in the Latin American nation. It also demonstrates the need for a firm and determined response from the international community.
The country reiterates that it will not recognize the current regime of Nicolás Maduro and the call is made to hold new presidential elections that meet all the necessary guarantees of a free, fair, transparent, democratic and legitimate process

added the statement.
Guaidó was arrested Sunday by authorities of the Maduro regime, but was released about an hour later.
Similarly, the Social Christian Party shared its commitment to democracy in that South American nation with the hashtag #DEMOCRACIAENVENEZUELA.
