Costa Rica will reveal to the world the secrets of its “blue zone”, the five cantons of Guanacaste in which men and women exceed the average life expectancy, even with ages over 100 years old.
The global meeting of “blue zones” will be held from November 16th to 18th in Nicoya, according to information published by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT).
The purpose of the activity is to investigate what happens in the cantons of Santa Cruz, Hojancha, Carrillo, Nandayure and Nicoya, share experiences of the long-lived and learn more from the scientific, cultural and health point of view.
National and international guests will participate in the meeting, with an agenda of activities for the enjoyment of visitors.
Part of the Nicoya Peninsula joins the exclusive list of five “blue zones” in the world, which includes: Icaria in Greece, Sardinia in Italy, Okinawa in Japan and Loma Linda in the United States.
In these regions, the inhabitants enjoy good physical and mental health, adherence to a food tradition, solid faith and spirituality, a lot of support and respect from a family network, physical activity reflected in constant mobility and having a life purpose.
