Costa Rica won’t recognize results of Venezuelan elections

The Costa Rican government reiterated its position to not recognizing the Venezuelan constituent national assembly or the results of the elections held last Sunday to choose the governors of 23 states.

Costa Rica won’t recognize the results of the election day, as it deems they are irregular, fraudulent and corrupt, collected with no reliable international supervision on Sunday, October 15th in Venezuela,”

said the Foreign Ministry in a press release issued on Tuesday afternoon.

The Ministry also condemns the actions of the National Electoral Council of that South American country, as it believes it manipulated the electoral system and the results. The CNE announced that the ruling party of Nicolás Maduro won 17 of the 23 governorships, which is completely rejected by the opposition.

Therefore, Costa Rica, which has recently shown a stronger position against what happens in Venezuela, won’t recognize the results and the actions derived from decisions of the constituent assembly.

The principles and democratic guarantees, a fair and transparent process, free and respectful of the civil and political rights of the brave Venezuelan people, were unfortunately not present,”

said the Foreign Ministry.
