The new ambassador of Costa Rica to India, Mariela Cruz, has a diplomatic agenda based on three pillars. In an interview with the university radio show Desayuno, Cruz explained that her agenda is based in yoga, gender and art.
Before her appointment, Cruz headed Namasté Yoga Studio and Physical Therapy Clinic, a she project left to take the country’s representation in India.
The woman acknowledged that yoga is part of her agenda in her new role, considering that the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is a yogi who promoted the International Yoga Day, declaring this practice as an instrument of Foreign policy.
Cruz explained that her appointment is the result of the direct recommendation by the Foreign Minister, Manuel González, who studied with her in the Law School of the UCR.
González pointed out that Cruz has a distinguished academic background and knowledge about Hindu culture, and that the procedure for her appointment was the usual one, that is, an interview with the President, so that the Governing Council will appointed her.
The ambassador flatly denied being or having been a yoga instructor for the First Lady, Mercedes Peñas, or that her appointment has any relation to the woman. The First Lady also denied the rumor.
