Costa Rican Esteban Gazel will receive Kuno prize!

Costa Rican Esteban Gazel will be awarded by The American Geophysical Union with an international recognition due to the impact of his research in earth sciences.

Gazel is a geologist who got graduated from the School of Geology at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) in 2005. He currently works as a professor in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech.

It is the result of all the work I’ve developed during 7 years. This includes new knowledge about the origin of the continental masses and its effects on the evolution of the planet, mantle’s internal dynamics, the study of volatile in magma and researches on the largest volcanic eruptions in massive extinctions,

explained Gazel.

According to the geologist, he will receive the award in December in a formal ceremony at American Geophysical Union’s conference.

This is a great recognition and a huge honor. This is one of the most important awards in my field of research. I’m proud that as a Costa Rican, people recognize the impact of my work,
