The accumulated Exports of goods reached 5,861,000 dollars until July, a number 6% higher than in the same period last year.
the growth in exports reflects a positive trade balance of Costa Rica; however, there is concern that this dynamism is generated only by companies under the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) which by its nature has greater incentives granted by law,
explained Laura Bonilla, director of the Chamber of Exporters of Costa Rica.
The country currently has 2,444 exporting companies, out of which 91% work under the definitive export system and 8% operate under FTZ.
Director of Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica Francisco Gamboa declared that the exports shows a 13% increase in foreign sales from FTZ industries but there is a worrying drop of -5% in industrial exports outside the free zone, which should be analyzed carefully.
If the petition to increase the gas price up to 72% and the bunker price up to 35% was approved, the situation could be much worse,
sstated Gamboa.
