On December 8th, US vice President-elect Mike Pence called the President of the Republic, Luis Guillermo Solís, to his personal cell phone.
Pence talked briefly with Solís and, according to the Presidential House, he had words of praise for Costa Rica.
The contact was described as ‘cordial, positive and constructive’ by the government.
The call from Pence comes at a time when the Costa Rican business sector is suspicious of Trump’s rise to power.
Trump and Pence also talked with other political leaders and presidents, among them: Michelle Bachelet, president of Chile; Milos Zeman, president of the Czech Republic; Sauli Niinisto, President of Finland; Juan Orlando Hernández, Honduran leader; Mariano Rajoy, Spanish Prime Minister and Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia.
The pair that shook the political scene of the United States will take office next January 20th.
