Students majoring in food technology and nutrition at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) will compete in Chicago after making a long-term dairy drink for pregnant women in the region of Sudan, Africa.
Hamilk, is the name of product, invented to help pregnant women in a region of Africa where there is a high rate of maternal mortality due to the limited resources of the population.
The drink has high quality proteins and essential vitamins and minerals during pregnancy (calcium, folic acid, iron and vitamins A and D), as well as Costa Rica’s fruits, such as mango and banana.
Vanessa Córdoba, Johan Jiménez, Ana Bonilla, Carlos Leandro Brenes, Óscar Hernández y Karla Murillo will have to travel on July, 15th, to participate in the competition “Developing solutions for developing countries (DSDC)”.
