Costa Rica ranks fifth worldwide as a favorite place for bird watching. This has allowed the country to become an important business nest for bird watching. Hence, the the National Bird Route was launched, consisting of 12 sites from which people can access specific observation points with high diversity of birds.
The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) launched this initiative aiming to promote public management processes and improving tourist services that impact positively on bird watching in the country.
It is estimated that Costa Rica has over 900 species of birds and 200 migratory birds, that arrive mainly from North America.
