The country has already exceeded 500 homicides so far this year, after four violent deaths were reported during the last couple of days. The cases occurred in Limón, Hatillo, Barranca and Sarapiquí. There different victims received bullet impacts and died.
The statistical data of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) indicate that to date 502 homicides have been registered.
The security authorities in the country struggle to try and achieve a decrease in homicides for the second consecutive year. At the same date of 2018, the authorities had registered more than 530 cases.
In fact, the projection released by the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) is that the figure for the year is 543 cases. The year 2018 ended with 585 cases, while 2017 ended with 603 murders.
Recently, Michael Soto, Minister of Security, said
there are homicides that the police cannot prevent.”
