Country finally has national cybersecurity strategy

After two and a half years of preparation, Costa Rica finally has a national cybersecurity strategy, a project that sets out the guidelines for computer security.

According to Sander Pacheco, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, this strategy will allow the creation of an area of coordination between the public and private sectors at the level of computer security.

The document was prepared by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MICTT), the Canadian Embassy, the British Embassy and specialized technicians of the Organization of American States (OAS).

In addition, there was collaborative work by national business chambers, nongovernmental organizations, civil organizations and the academy.

There is no perfect system or completely immune to the attack of a hacker, what does exist is the coordination so that each day we can improve those systems and with the help of all the inhabitants we can have a safer country,”

said Pacheco.

Now the authorities will appoint a committee to oversee the establishment of the operational plan for the implementation of the strategy. The representatives will be:

2 from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
1 from the Judicial Branch.
1 from the Superintendence of Telecommunications.
2 from civil society.
2 from the academy.
2 from the private sector.
