The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) reports a total of 185 homicides investigated in the national territory during the first four months of 2017.
This was announced by Álvaro González, head of the OIJ homicide section, after the death of a 19-year-old boy in Desamparados on Tuesday night.
Authorities estimate that 2017 could end with more than 600 homicides, which would break the record reached during the previous year.
The provinces of San José and Limón continue as the most violent of the country. With these data, the country reports an average of one homicide every 16 hours.
The majority of the victims are people under the age of 35.
