Court President gives his cell phone number to be contacted in cases of gender violence

May 30, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Carlos Chinchilla, president of the Supreme Court of Justice, said that he and the Judiciary are committed to eradicating violence against women, so he publicly gave his telephone number (84241313) during an activity organized by the National Institute of Women (INAMU).

If they call me, I probably will not answer, but will via WhatsApp,”

the magistrate joked.

What I want to tell you is that they have the support of the Judicial Branch and my support at all times and if they need direct support with the declaration of emergency, count on my presence,”

said Chinchilla during Wednesday’s activity.

Chinchilla was one of the guests to present the figures on gender violence in Costa Rica. Patricia Mora, Minister of the Status of Women and president of INAMU, made a call during the event to join efforts to eradicate any violence against women, including the one generated in the judicial field.

According to the report presented on Wednesday, only 10% of the cases handled by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in 2014 within the framework of the Law on Criminalization of Violence against Women were remitted to the court with a request for accusation. Of these cases, 61.4% ended in a request for dismissal.
