CR is still in danger of being added to FATF black list

Last week, the project that includes amendments to the Law on Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, Drugs of Unauthorized Use, Related Activities, Legitimation of Capital and Financing of Terrorism was approved in the Legislative Assembly.

With this, an important step is taken not to fall into the black list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). However, the Government knows very well that the country is not completely safe from being added to the unwanted list.

A single approval in the first reading is not enough for the FATF. It doesn’t require already sanctioned rules, but implemented rules, which means that we have to present issues of possibilities of execution,”

said Luis Paulino Mora, who this week serves as Minister ai of Presidency.

Although it was agreed that a written report of the progress made today would be submitted, the FATF granted the country 3 more days and will be Friday when it is done.

However, the deadline for Costa Rica is June 10th, so the Executive expects by that date the second reading has already being held and implemented, in addition to progress in the project to end organized crime’s control.
