This Tuesday, the former Executive Secretary of the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Cristiana Figueres, was awarded with the Pax Natura Prize.
The Board of Directors of the Pax Natura Foundation, based in Utah, United States, awarded her this year’s prize for having assumed responsibility for the negotiation on climate change after the frustrated conference in Copenhagen in 2009.
The organization highlighted that Figueres successfully led the conferences of the parties in Cancun 2010, Durban 2011, Doha 2012, Warsaw 2013 and Lima 2014, culminating her efforts in the historic Paris Agreement in 2015.
The award was presented on Monday at the Golden Hall of the Foreign Ministry.
Figueres said that Costa Rica and the world face new challenges in environmental protection and in efforts to mitigate climate change, including working collectively and not individually.
